Gotta wonder what little hands played with these. I got them at a yard sale a few years ago. This women  had some very old pieces of furniture and lots of other really interesting things. She had just come from New York city on the Hudson. Lots of old estates there. She said it was her aunts house and she had to take everything out of there.  I got these old blocks and a big wood dough bowl. Wish I would have bought more.
Reading WUTHERING HEIGHTS.  I saw the movie a long time ago but never read the book. Written by Emily Bronte in 1847. Not a fast read because of the way they spoke.
Also tea staining a few old dollies.  I can always find something to do. I also just had a piece of candy that was very good. Maybe that's one thing I shouldn't have found to do.

These are a few of my old cookbooks. The Westinghouse one looks like it got a lot of use. The Watkins has lots of good things to make. The little ones with the girls on are baking soda.  The cookie cutters are from my Grandma. I have some other books but couldn't fit them in the picture.
I just ordered one called "FARMHOUSE RULES", she has a cooking show on the food network.
Made a big pot of ham chowder this morning, the kids all like that so I divide it up and they come get it.
Just finished the new FANNIE FLAG book. It was different. Not quite sure what I think about it.
Snow here today, looks so pretty outside.

Staying Home

As with most of us its been a busy time. So nice to stay home and no shopping, no place to go today. Had a great Christmas.  Once Christmas day has passed, I take all the decorations down. I know, not what most do. I used to have Richard hide the tree outback for a week or so, that way the neighbors wouldn't think I was crazy putting the tree to the road the day after Christmas. Have to cover myself from neighborhood gossip.

Denise on the Mary Jane site had a drawing for this cute book. I told her if I won I would post a picture with kitty reading the book. As you can see she has only read the cover so far, but I think she is just about to turn the page.   Thank you Denise what a cute book. Also for the little extras that you included in the package. So nice.

Santa and nine Raindeer

I get this out every year. My Aunt Glenda made this years ago and had it on her mantle for many years and then gave it to me. She is 101 years old now. She was here yesterday for the day, we had a nice visit, had lunch and dinner, she had a couple of cocktails before dinner, she was all dressed up for the Holidays.  We are not sure how she keeps going.
Going to see Richards sister today, she is in a nursing home, has been she had a stroke when she was only in her forties. Taking some presents and candy etc.
Kitty is running around here this morning like she has had to much coffee. Every toy she has is in the hall, and she had been on the coffee table shooting hard candy out of the dish and unto the floor, and on the back of a chair trying to eat a hanging plant. She should be taking her six hour nap pretty soon.
Well off to so housework, and pick up kitties toys.

Jack and Kitty

Jack and kitty in the computer room, they seem to both see something on the rug. I  looked and I couldn't find anything.
A few more days until Christmas, I have Kitties presents all wrapped, as well as everyone else. Just going shopping later in the week for all the food I will need over the weekend. So like just about everyone this time of year, busy.

85 million stitches

That's what it felt like by the time I finished this. I think I will just read for awhile. I got three new books this week so I'm good to go. I put this down in the basement sewing room,{I don't really sew} but there is a sewing machine there, plus family room, but we are usually upstairs, plus lots of my finds, so its a pretty room.. Oh KITTY sleeps down there during the day on the couch with a nice quilt. So see it does get used.  I just didn't want to see that pillow again for awhile.
Cold and snow here, but that's to be expected. I think its 10 out this morning. I'm staying home. Lets see dinner today is going to be, broiled fish, mashed potatoes, some veg. Not sure yet about dessert.  I think that's all the breaking news this morning.

Hand Made Santa

A friend of mine made this Wood Santa for me a few years ago. well actually several years ago. Don't know where the time goes, can't keep up with it.  I don't put a lot of decorations out, but this one always makes a Christmas appearance.  The crock with the ivy in I got also awhile back, either thrift store or garage sale.  Can't remember, which is another thing I'm losing track of. I know where Richard is though, he is in the living room watching the news.
Rain and snow and sleet today, going to the stores tomorrow to pick up what I will be needing for my youngest daughters Birthday party here tomorrow evening. Not to worry I wrote everything down.  She is not so young anymore, 46 this year. Yippes,   Well I think all is well, I still don't take naps during the day. Not that theirs anything wrong with that.

Sunday Sampler

Not a very good picture, but it is Sunday today. Made this a few years ago, thought it was cute because its so simple. I have made many samplers that have taken me months but this one a few hours. It reminded me of years ago when Sunday came around it was a good idea to sit and be quiet.
Cold here today, making chicken biscuits and Gravy for dinner. Keeping busy with Christmas events and getting ready for Christmas Eve, when the animals can all talk  and Christmas day.

Santa and a Jug

Christmas is coming soon, I'm almost done with shopping, I even have the wrapping under control. I used to do the wrapping all at once, now I do it as I get the present. Kitty is a real big help with the wrapping.  Looks like some really cold weather  and snow coming our way. Now that's if you can believe the weather people. We shall see.  Making meat loaf and mashed potatoes for dinner, in case anyone needed to know that.  Lets see, Oh, the Santa was from my Mom, its very heavy, The jug I got at a garage sale years ago.  Unless you want to know what I had for Breakfast I guess that's it for now.

My Favorite Basket

Richard's Dad gave me this basket years ago, Said it was always at the farm and belonged to his Great Grandma.  As you can see I keep cards and letters in it. Not Christmas cards they go in another place. And as I have shown before all the Mary Jane girl mail goes in a hat box. Anyway wouldn't it be fun to know how the Women of the past used this basket?
Windy and cold today, we had company last night, that was fun. I started a needlework that Debbie sent me "MARY JANE GIRL". Doing it in red work.  Probably go for Groceries later today.

Surprise Box from Debbie

This was really a surprise. The box came in the mail yesterday and I couldn't guess what it was. Well its a Birthday Box from Debbie. A Mary Jane Farmgirl. A beautiful Amish cookbook, several packs of needle work. An Afghan book, a coloring book. A lace hankie and dolie, Pretty sure I spelled that wrong. Some note cards and a Birthday card and a nice hand written letter. always like those, you don't get to many hand written letters these days. So thank you to Debbie!!!

Today at home.

Kitty took a rag Ball out of my Basket and put it in hers.  Its lot like having a toddler around here. She likes to eat every few minutes as you can tell, she wakes me up around five in the morning for an early breakfast, and except for her long afternoon nap she goes where I go.
Really windy and cold here today, I have a pot roast in the crock pot, and a cherry crisp, which is not in the crock pot.

Things around the House

Got carried away this morning taking pictures of things around the house, so guess that is what I will be posting for awhile. The old cup is filled with cute clothespins with little faces on. I looked them up once and I think they are from the 1940's. The pretty box on the right was a gift from a blogging friend a few years ago. The tin I think was from a garage sale and it was filled with buttons.
Mild here today, lots of windows opened, changed the sheets, cleaned out the fridge, no more Thanksgiving leftovers.  I'm going to get some new reading glasses this afternoon, its been a few years since I've had my eyes checked. Maybe grilled cheese and tomato soup for dinner.

Amish Doll for my Birthday

I had such a nice Birthday party Sat. the 26th. I received so many nice presents from the kids and friends. This handmade Amish Doll is from my daughter April. They have a cabin in Amish country and  she bought it there. The rocking chair was mine when I was little.
Had a nice Thanksgiving, had 14 for dinner, so its been a busy few days and enjoyed it all.
Bright and sunny today, temps still mild for this time of year, in the 40's. Richard put up the outside Christmas lights a few days ago.

Wednesday, November 23, 2016

Susan Branch Books

All three of these books are really a nice read, and with all the colors and drawings  and hand written. She also has a nice blog.
Getting everything ready for Thanksgiving tomorrow. I think we will have about 12. I already set the table and made what I could ahead. Looks like we will get some snow tonight, but then rain the rest of the week.  Then its on to Christmas.

Cork Board in my Laundry room

I put this up a few years ago, good place to put things I don't know what to do with , but don't want to throw out. Makes for a bright area near the washer.

Jack and Dave

Jack and Dave saw that it was snowing this morning and insisted  getting out their Christmas hats and scarf. I told them it was a little early but its hard to win an argument  with two bears. Notice how Jack has his foot on Dave., Jack is a little silly where Dave is more serious. You can tell by just looking at their faces.
Made an apple crisp this morning. and a big pot of ham chowder.  Plan on being home all day.

Mary Jane Farm Books

These are all really nice books. I got them out today to look through them again. Click on the picture and you can see them better. I took about a hundred pictures, this was the best one. They are filled with lots of good info, and beautiful pictures. So one of these might make a nice Christmas gift if someone needs an idea.
Been stocking up for Thanksgiving, they will all be here. I have one more list for next week. Last year here Thanksgiving was really warm, 60's. Doesn't look like that for this year.

Monday, November 14, 2016

This is such a nice book, so many pictures of Tasha.  Pictures when she is a child, her parents, then Tasha as a young mother and her four children. Then Tasha with her Grandchildren. Many other nice pictures. I got this book used for just a few dollars. Well worth it. Also lots of written info about her life.
Her maiden name was Burgess, so was mine. Wouldn't that be funny if we were related?

Library Book Sale

These are some of the books I got at the Library sale last Saturday. Ran out of room in my upstairs book case so now starting to use the shelves down in the sewing, family, etc. room. I have another new stack up by my chair. So looks like I have enough reading material for awhile.  Books were .25 cents each.
Chilly here today, leaves all over the place and flying through the air. I think it might be a good idea to have Grilled cheese and Tomato soup for dinner. Pretty tired today, was up late "four AM" watching the election returns.

Sunday, November 6, 2016

My Daughter and I went to a church rummage sale yesterday and an estate sale and a book sale at the library. Fun day. I now have lots of what I hope to be good books to read. I got this crock with the flowers for, .25 cents. The church sale prices are always way low. but they make it up in selling sooo much stuff.
Sunny here today, Richard is outside raking, I made a loaf of cranberry bread, and I bet I end up doing some reading later. I made a BIG rag ball for kitty, she chases it all over. She was getting into mine so I thought she should have one of her own.

Fall light on the Kitchen

The light coming into the kitchen last evening was so pretty I took this picture. This is the far end of the kitchen, and over that counter is the back entry way. There are four windows out there that catch the late afternoon and early evening light.  I always think the light in the fall is so pretty, catches the color of the leaves I think.

Pretty papers from the Thrift

I found the top three at the thrift. The pink box on the bottom I had, its full of writing paper and stickers etc. Anyway the two on the left are really pretty writing paper. My favorite is the little box of bookplates, 50 of them, and they have a kitty on the chair. I think its from a while ago. There is no "UPC' number on the box.
Lots of rain here overnight and this morning. Got up and decided to change out the bathroom curtains to some other ones I had in the attic, kitty went up with me and I left her up there sleeping in the curtain box.

Book by Charles Lindbergh's Daughter

Got this at the library for .50 cents. Really nice book, love the story. A real look into their family. I also have the book her mother wrote, Gift from the sea.
See the little birds on the left lower by the book? They are Iron. I got those and several other birds from a friend who died a few years ago. Kitty tries to knock them off when she is on top of the fireplace but they are pretty heavy.

Picture of me. sort of.

One of my blogging friends wanted to see a picture of me. Well first I tried the selfie kind, took two pictures of  the ceiling and one of my sneakers. Then I pushed the wrong button on the camera and was blinded by the flash. So I went to the big mirror in the Hall, and took a picture, only light I had was the overhead one. So this is what I ended up with. I need to lay down now.

Tasha Tudor Books

I was reminded by a blogger friend about Tasha, so I got her books out to look at them again. Such beautiful pictures and so much info. on how she chose to live. I see on  Amazon that they have these books used for a very low price.
Rain here today, I cooked a pan of bacon in the oven this morning, I think we will have Bacon cheese burgers for dinner, doesn't that sound healthy?

Kitty picking out a Ribbon

I'm TRYING! to make a craft and kitty as usual wants to help. So she sticks her paw in the jar and pulls out the ribbon.  Her tubby self doesn't have a lot of room to spare on the shelf.
Made an apple crisp this morning, and I made a chicken roaster in the oven yesterday so got lots left for today.  Been reading a lot." Outlanders" is what I'm reading now. Its over 600 pages so its going to take a few more days. Or weeks. Very Big.  I have a nice stack of books waiting for me when this one is done.  Guess that's it for today.

Sunday, October 23, 2016

Banana Bread and Rolling pin.

Happy Sunday. Made a loaf of Banana bread this morning. Rain is gone and its sunny out. That's nice for a change. The Ruby Christmas galls bowl I got from the thrift a few weeks ago. I put a candle in it. The big wood bowl was from my aunt Glenda. The old wood rolling pin was made by my Great Grandfather  and  dated  1889. When ever I use it I think about my Great Grandma Emma using it. I have her diary and she was always talking about what she was baking that day.

Hydrangeas and Big Chalk Kitty

When we were down to see my Aunt, she gave me these Hydrangeas,{yes I had to look up how to spell it}. I had been wanting some dried ones for a while. I had some years ago and they lasted along time.  The big kitty I got years ago and for the longest time she was outside in the flowers. Then someone told me that it had some value being an old chalk kitty. So I gave her a bath and she lives in the back entry way now.  The vase is a Roseville that came from Richard's Aunts house.
Pretty chilly outside this morning, I think I will play inside today.

Halloween Card that is a perfect match.

Denise, "Mary Jane Farmgirl" sent me this card, it matches my black china kitties perfect.  Thank you Denise. Love getting such nice mail.

Old Christmas Sewing Box

I got this at the thrift a while back, I know big surprise right? The top is leather the sides are a linen material. I guess you only use this during December.  The learn to knit book was mine when I was about 10 years old. It didn't work that well for me. Knit and pearl are about it for me. Maybe mittens or hats or scarfs. As long as the pattern instructions don't  get crazy. But its a cute book. 1950's. Rain and cool here today. Kitty went upstairs to bed when she saw she couldn't go out this morning.

My Leaf Pressing Book

This is the book I use to press my leaves. I got it at the thrift stores a few years ago. It has lots of nice colored bird prints in it. I had to get it for another reason, My maiden name is Burgess. Its nice thick book, lots of pages so it will be good for pressing for a long time.
Going to Olean today, a town about an hour from here to visit my Aunt Glenda, she is 101 years old. She lives at home and is amazing.  Its also very warm here today, 75 right now. Very odd. Suppose to cool off this coming weekend.  Leaves  are turning fast now, so pretty.

Friday, October 14, 2016

Kitty is pressing leaves

She is trying to get it in the center of the page. Very clever Kitty. Of course first she tried to eat it.

Thursday, October 13, 2016

I  guess this a little spring and a little fall. I have had these little guys for a long time. They are chalk ware pieces. They came from Richard's Aunt's house.  I don't know why there is a duck, maybe a mixed marriage or an adoption. The Aunts were so cute, three sisters that lived together never married. So a  lot if the things I have around the house were from their estate.
My Daughter brought over some beef barley soup so I won't be having to do much cooking today, maybe some little bread sticks to go with it. So that's it for today.

Tuesday, October 11, 2016

No I didn't get them at the thrift. A girl I know years ago made them for me. I can't see myself being able to sew like this. Anyway they sit upstairs in what has become the room for a lot of my collections. It used to be the girls room when they lived at home. And in those days I wasn't collecting much, To busy working keeping house and raising three kids and a husband. I have a lot more time to play now. But still raising a husband.

Another Thrift Store Find

I wish the picture had been more clear, this is so colorful and has a pretty gold rim all around it. I love pretty dishes and this was only 1.98.   looked it up online and its value is about $35.00.
Sunny and cool here today, the nights are in the 40's. Leaves are coming down now, I better get out there and find some pretty ones to press.

Saturday, October 8, 2016

Thrift Store Day

My Daughter and I had such a nice day at the thrift today. I have about five pictures to post but I will do this one first. I got the basket, then I found a bag with all kinds of little trims. Ribbons and flowers and a needle work to do. I use the trims for gifts and for sending a little something in a card or letter, or for trim on some of my embroideries. etc. So this was a good deal for 1.98 because there are lots of little bags in that basket. The needlework  was .98 cents and will probably keep me busy for quite a while. I will post more pictures of my finds this week.

Friday, October 7, 2016

I received these yesterday from the same girl that I got the sweet Annie from last week. I had this little antique pitcher with the pink flowers and the tray has pink flowers so I thought this was a good place to put them. Drying flowers would be a fun thing to do, I just don't know where I would get all the flowers so that I could do it. I'm pretty sure people would notice if they were missing from their front lawns. So for now I have to buy them.

Tuesday, October 4, 2016

I think I must be one of the last to read OUTLANDERS. So I ordered it and petty soon I can say I read it.
Right now I'm reading the Alice Hoffman book. So far its a nice story, I have never read anything of hers before. Got that one at the library for .50 cents.
So many books out there a person doesn't know what to read first.

Monday, October 3, 2016

Kitty having ANOTHER nap.

She likes t o get on top of the fireplace, sometimes she gets up there and sits and stares at the clock. I think she can see herself in the glass part.
Going for groceries pretty soon, guess I will make a pot roast today, leftovers tomorrow.

Feels like Autumn Today

Hung up my Autumn embroidered towel. Have to make use of some of these things I have made.
Our friend and sort of cousin and lawyer brought us chick. BBQ  from the church fund raiser today for dinner so now I don't have to make supper. That was a treat.
Did a lot of housework this morning, was also working on a paper craft for a swap on the Mary Jane site. Also reading a really good book. So the day goes along.   Not a real clear picture unless you click on it. Everyone wants to see a stove right?

Friday, September 30, 2016

Sweet Annie

I know this has another name, the tall stuff behind the ivy. But by the time I look up the spelling? Well don't want to. Anyeeeeway. I love the smell and have been wanting some for the back entry way, found a site online to get it.  The girl that owned the site had so many nice dried arrangements  that I might re-visit the site.
Did a lot of cleaning this morning, and now I think I will go out side and throw out of few of the summer plants that have lost their good looks. Pretty soon it will be time to press some pretty leaves.

Monday, September 26, 2016

I have six of these little lamps, not sure what there purpose ever was but they sure are cute. Maybe they were night lights. Remember the little block games that you could make different pictures when you turned the blocks over? This one was mine when I was little. I have found two other ones since. They may even be making them again now.
I made a nice pot of chicken soup today, came out really good even if I do say so myself. Its in the 60's today and turning toward rain now. Started a new book called, "HERE ON EARTH". by Alice Hoffman. Don't know yet if it will be a good one or not. Always hope a new book will be a good one.
We will be watching the debate tonight. So that's it for today.

Tiny Tears? or Betsy Wetsy?

Hasn't she got the cutest face. I have had her for a long time. Does anyone know which Doll this is?

Cyrstal candle holder. .49 cents at the thrift

I didn't really need another candle holder, but you know .49 cents?? It has the nicest ring to it because its crystal. I have several beeswax candles that I get from the Nuns at 'HOLY NATIVITY CONVENT". Read about them on the Susan Branch site a while back. Three of the nuns came to one of her book signing and brought her the candles. the address for them is
Might be going to the thrift later today with my daughter or to a few garage sales. Tomorrow is my oldest daughter's BD, so I will be making a cake and a veg. platter to take, looks like temps in the 60's, so we will probably be building an outside fire. we have most of our good weather parties on their big covered porch.

Thursday, September 22, 2016

My blogging friend Sam wanted to see my afghan. I got this yarn last year and it was called Victorian Christmas. It doesn't show in the picture but it has a sparkle yarn going through it. It is now in the upstairs room on the back of an antique rocker.
You can see kitties scratching post over there to the right. Not really my d├ęcor. She prefers the chair in  the living room so I may get to move the post to the basement. This room we call the computer room, its also my quiet space. Beautiful day today so I'm off to go outside for awhile, still have plants to water.

Tuesday, September 20, 2016

Tiny Rag Balls

I put them in this dish so you can see how small they are. I mean cute or what? They were fun to do and I used up some material that was to small for much else.
Warm here today. Looks like fall weather this coming weekend. I put a lot of my summer clothes away this morning. I suppose in another few weeks we will be raking leaves every few minutes. I always press a bunch in a big book that I have. First I Iron them between sheets of wax paper.

Monday, September 19, 2016

Two pictures today. Books etc.

These are some of my books. I only keep the ones I really like, can't keep them all or we would have to move I have more in other parts of the house, craft books  in the craft room, kids books upstairs etc. whatever I'm reading now or going to read on my table by my chair.
